Bad Breath Detector: Are They A Waste Of Money?

I often get letters from readers asking me if bad breath detectors truly work. They often want to know if I think they are a good idea.

First off, you might be wondering what a bad breath detector is - and what it does.

The most common bad breath detectors are designed as hand held devices that are made so that you can breathe into so that they can evaluate your breath odor. If there is a detection of bad breath, most of them have a light that will shine.

They vary by model --- you will, customarily, get different colored lights that connote different things. Obviously a red light means BAD - a green light signals GOOD, and there might likely even be yellow and orange lights indicating borderline levels of breath odor.

How is it they can do this? Heck, I really don't know. If you are like me, you probably don't really care how they work. Just as long as they do.

How much do they cost? Typically something like $20. Those are the normal ones. Some of the fancier models may cost near $60, but generally those may also also have an alcohol level breath measuring function.

Do I think you should you buy one?

I guess that depends. If $20 won't break you, and you like the idea of what it does - grab one. Why not?

Just remember, you can check your own breath for free by breathing onto the the back of either hand and taking a whiff. You might also try licking your wrist lightly and then sniffing there.

These two tests should be able to tell you if your breath needs attention. The first one is for general bad breath, the second test is designed to pinpoint bad breath caused by saliva, which is not as common.

Just as essential, in my thinking, is asking yourself what you are doing to prevent breath odor? You must understand your fundamental bad breath cause.

Though you may not hard heard this, commercial mouthwash formulas contain alcohol, which is not good!

Alcohol tends to dry the mouth, and dry mouth means a lack of healthy saliva which is necessary for fresh breath. Alcohol is not an effective bad breath remedy.

While I was doing the research for my book, The Bad Breath Treatment Guide, I learned that bad breath in the majority of those who suffer with it is brought about by one of these factors:

The Foods You Digest

Improper Dental Procedures

Dry Mouth

Dieting Extremes

Infections in the Throat or Nose

Strain

In addition, in a minority of cases, bad breath can be brought about by chronic illnesses.

The best bad breath treatment is a natural home remedy that actually works.
