A Great Way To Find A Restaurant In Pau
I have just transferred to Pau and love it. Nonetheless, as with any new home, there are some things that you have to locate and discover as a high priority and a good restaurant in Pau was at the top of my list of things to find.
After you have a roof over your head and comfortable bed the next step is to organise quality of life. In my books, quality of life is described by two things; company and food (with a glass of wine of course). I also learn that the two tend to go together. A good meal is always improved if you are in reliable company, just as good company will often lead to the discovery and experience of many good meals.
So, how did I begin my quest for a good restaurant in Pau? Well, I started with the bars. I wanted to be familiar with what sort of people lived here. I wanted to understand who were the driving force of the market. I have to know if I was in a town of old people who frequented cafes or is a town driven by live music and social life which roared into the early hours. The great, and surprising news, is that I found everything. Literally, for instance, the Boulevard des Pyrenees. If you sit outside of one of these bars for an entire day and evening, (which of course I have made) you will notice representatives of every age and rank of the Pau life.
So then I had to decide what to attempt first. A quick chat with the bar man provided me a bit of a feel for the place. He was English and had lived here for 5 years. He was warm and friendly and informed me everything from the best places to take a girl on a first date, down to the right locations for a hangover cure.
I soon realised that I did not actually want to check every restaurants of Pau alone, and so I loitered in the bar a little longer, wondering how I was going to develop a social circle. However, while I was wondering, it was being built for me. The bar man finished his turn at nine, and was meeting a couple of pals, before I knew it was were all sitting in a small Italian in the center of the old town.
These folks have become my best friends in Pau and together we have tried everything from the bars to the Michelin star restaurants, and this is how I found my way to a great restaurant in Pau. Like what I've said, good company and good restaurants go together.
